WWSSN Film Chip Scanning Project

Notice to all potential users of WWSSN historical data (July 3, 2003)

NewSome High Resolution Tiff Examples (15 Oct 2002)

The jpeg images in other places on this web site were made from the orginal high resolution tiff image scans by using Adobe Photoshop to translate to the lower resolution, smaller file sizes made possible through the use of jpeg. Any non-zoomed jpeg images will appear to be much lower resolution than the original film scan. The following three tiff images of three full-sized seismograms are at the original full resolution of the scans done by Ronsin Imaging, but are larger files.

NewLatest Film Scans (7 Oct 2002) Details

ALQ_SPZ_27_Mar_1964 Zoom view of a small event from the first half of the Vertical Short Period ALQ seismogram recorded on the date of the Great Alaskan EQ of March 1964. This image was scanned from the film chip of this seismogram. A few scratch marks are evident on the film chip.

ALQ_SPZ_27_Mar_1964_orig The same zoom view as ALQ_SPZ_27_Mar_1964, but scanned instead at 300 dpi from the original seismogram, for comparison.

ALQ_SPZ_28_Mar_1964 Zoom view of a small event from the last half of the Vertical Short Period ALQ seismogram recorded on the date of the Great Alaskan EQ of March 1964. This image was scanned from the film chip of this seismogram. The image on this area of the film chip was in better condition than the top half (not as many scratch marks).

ALQ_SPZ_28_Mar_1964_orig The same zoom view as ALQ_SPZ_28_Mar_1964, but scanned instead at 300 dpi from the original seismogram, for comparison.

ALQ_LPZ_01_Apr_1964 Overall view of the ALQ LPZ seismogram beginning on 1 April 1964 for a magnitude 7.0 quake in Sumatra (delta = 134 degrees).

ALQ_LPZ_01_Apr_1964_zoom Zoom view of the ALQ_LPZ_01_Apr_1964 seismogram showing the first arrival and some large surface waves from the M 7.0 Sumatra quake.
