Connecting to the LISS

hand3.gif (240 bytes) Notice to users:  The LISS address has changed.  Each station has its own address.  See Step 3 below for an example of the new address and the use of dumpseed.

The LISS makes it possible for multiple users to receive near-real-time seismic data directly to their computers. Data requests are not necessary, nor are individual dial-up or telnet sessions to seismic stations. Once the necessary client software is running on the host machine and is connected to the LISS, SEED binary data files will be received directly. These data records can be converted to ASCII and may be stored in a rotating buffer, for example, enabling the user to access live and recent data at will.

The LISS software has been tested for portability on Solaris 2.5.1, SunOs 4.1.3_U1, FreeBSD 2.1.5, and Redhat Linux 4.2 operating systems. The software connects to a particular IP address and, on the fly, converts the SEED binary records into ASCII.  Follow these steps to load and run the software:

1. Retrieve the software for connection to the LISS

2. Compile the software. README and INSTALL files are included in the software package.

3. Run dumpseed -d -e -t address (e.g. dumpseed -d -e -t anmo.iu.liss.org, for GSN station ANMO ASCII-format data from the ASL LISS). A detailed UNIX man page for dumpseed is included with the software package.

Alternatively, if you don't require our software to access the IP address, simply connect to the desired station's address and port 4000.
